Before you do, though, here are some useful tips to help get your website off to a flying start...
• It's a good idea to get together any existing text, publications, pictures, ideas, etc. that might be useful during an initial discussion. Text and pictures in digital format are preferred!
• Do you already have a corporate image (logo, span styles, house colours, etc.)? If so, do you want that image to be translated to the website?
• If you have a commercial site in mind, it is important to check out the opposition. See which sites you think work well and which don't. Make a note of the web addresses of both the best and the worst.
• Become familiar with general website styles that you think might be appropriate for your project - these can always be a good starting point for discussion, even if the final solution is something completely different. Again, note down the web addresses of relevant sites.
• Finally, make a list of around 20 'keywords' that you think someone might use to search for your site on Google or Yahoo or other search engines, and write a sentence that succinctly describes your business or service.
• Who is your website to be aimed at?
• Do you want to attract a wide variety of people or will your site be of specialist interest?
• Is the site to be public or private?
• If a 'public' site, will it be sales based, information based, or a mixture of the two?
• If a 'private' site, (members only, workgroup, LAN etc.) what is its purpose?
• If you are starting from scratch, have you thought about co-ordinating design across web and print media? (We do both!)
